About Humanin

Humanin is a 24-residue peptide encoded in the mitochondrial genome. Hashimoto and colleagues found it in 2001 while looking for factors that rescue neurons from death caused by familial Alzheimer's genes, and it became the first known mitochondrial-derived peptide, a group that now also includes MOTS-c.

Later work identified a cytokine receptor complex through which it acts (Hashimoto et al., 2009), produced more potent derivatives such as colivelin (Chiba et al., 2005) and linked it to lifespan and healthspan in animal models (Yen et al., 2020). Is this Humanin or HNG?

Unmodified Humanin, with the native sequence shown above. HNG is an analogue with a glycine substitution and a different mass; if your work needs it, ask before ordering.

Why does the storage line mention oxidation?

The sequence contains a methionine and a cysteine, both of which can oxidize, and the cysteine can form disulfide-linked pairs. Keep the powder sealed and follow the storage conditions on the COA of your lot.
