About Kisspeptin-10

Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest active member of the kisspeptin family, the peptides cut from the product of the KISS1 gene. Its ten amino acids, ending in an amide, are enough to activate the kisspeptin receptor KISS1R, also known as GPR54.

Interest in the system grew after two 2003 papers linked loss of GPR54 function to absent puberty (Seminara et al.; de Roux et al.). Kisspeptin acts upstream of the GnRH neurons, so kisspeptin-10 is a standard tool for studying the top of the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis. It sits in Hormone & growth axis with Gonadorelin and the other reproductive-axis peptides.

How does Kisspeptin-10 differ from Kisspeptin-54?

Both come from the same precursor and act at the same receptor. Kisspeptin-54 is the long form and Kisspeptin-10 its last ten residues. Results with one do not automatically hold for the other; several published human studies used Kisspeptin-54 (Jayasena et al., 2014).

What should I check when the kits arrive?

Match the lot number on the vials with the COA, which reports HPLC purity and the MS identity of the amidated decapeptide (1302.46 g/mol).
