Research background

About LL-37

LL-37 is the only cathelicidin peptide made by humans. It is cut from a larger precursor protein, hCAP-18, and is named after its first two residues (two leucines) and its length of 37 amino acids. The chain carries many positive charges and folds into a helix next to membranes.

Research on LL-37 covers its direct action on microbes and its signalling role in innate immunity. The precursor was first described under the name FALL-39, expressed in bone marrow (Agerberth et al., 1995), then found in the epithelium of the airways (Bals et al., 1998); a 2006 review by Dürr and colleagues covers its structure and membrane activity. Why can measured LL-37 come out lower than the weighed amount?

Because the peptide is strongly cationic, it binds to plastic and glass at low concentrations. Many labs make dilutions in low-binding tubes. The COA covers the lot's HPLC purity and MS identity; recovery in your own buffer is worth checking in your setup.

Can I get an endotoxin result for LL-37?

Yes, on request. Endotoxin and other extra tests are listed on the COA when they are run, so mention it in the message with your quote list if your work needs it.
