About MGF

The IGF-1 gene is spliced in more than one way. One variant, IGF-1Ec, ends in a distinctive E-domain, and its expression in muscle rises after mechanical loading — the origin of the name mechano growth factor, reviewed by Goldspink (2005). The product here is the synthetic 24-residue peptide that corresponds to that E-domain, not the complete IGF-1Ec protein.

Published studies follow how the IGF-1 isoforms are expressed after exercise-induced muscle damage (Philippou et al., 2009) and test the E-peptide on human muscle progenitor cells (Kandalla et al., 2011). The unmodified peptide is short-lived, so it is mostly a cell-culture material. We list it under Hormone & growth axis with the IGF-1 variants.

Is MGF the same as IGF-1?

No. IGF-1 is the mature growth factor; MGF is the E-domain peptide of one IGF-1 splice variant, with its own sequence and a molecular weight of 2868.17 g/mol. The COA of your lot checks HPLC purity and MS identity against that weight.

How does MGF differ from PEG-MGF?

PEG-MGF carries a polyethylene glycol chain that slows its breakdown; the MGF on this page is the unmodified peptide. They are separate catalog entries with different masses, so name the one you need on your quote list.
