Research background

About DSIP

DSIP was described in 1977 by Schoenenberger, Monnier and colleagues, who isolated it from the cerebral venous blood of rabbits during stimulation of sleep-related brain regions; its sequence and synthesis followed (Schoenenberger et al., 1978). It is a nine-residue peptide without a known dedicated receptor.

Early human studies looked at sleep behaviour (Schneider-Helmert et al., 1981), and later research added stress-response and neuroendocrine questions, but its mechanism is still not well defined. We list DSIP in Cognition & sleep with melatonin and Pinealon.
